Our
Nicaraguan Friends ~ Penpals are Fun
"We
like to have penpals because they're really fun to talk
with. It's fun to have friends from another place. When
we go to Hidden Villa, we come back and share our experiences
with them. When we are at school, sometimes we write letters
to them about our field trips or about what we have been
doing. When we write letters to our Nicaraguan friends,
we feel really happy because we are sharing our stories
with them. When we go on a field trip with our class, Profe
takes our penpals on a similar field trip. When we come
back from our field trips we tell each other stories of
the things that happened and they give us ideas from their
field trips.
"We
have learned a lot of things about our penpals. We get
to learn about their country. We can also learn
about their culture,
about their religion and about the kind of food they eat.
It’s
interesting that they have farm animals in their houses because
we don’t. The library at Nicaragua is really special
to the kids over there. It's special because they don't really
have much money to buy their own books. Also, their school
doesn't have so many books like we have here. But now, our
friends can just go to their new community library to read."
