Wild
Animals at Hidden Villa
In
the Hidden Villa forest there are many big, wild animals
lurking behind trees and over the mountains. There are lots
of predators searching for food and prey hoping not to be
found. There are always big wild animals in the forest and
if you’re quiet, have good ears and sharp eyes, you
can find some of them. Students learn about some of the big
wild animals that make a home in Hidden Villa including coyotes,
hawks and deer.
Coyotes
are talented predators that live in the Hidden Villa wilderness.
They use their sharp hearing to find and hunt rabbits. In
addition, they have fast legs to catch rabbits on the run.
Their sharp teeth let them bite, kill and eat rabbits. Every
once in awhile on the trail you can find coyote scat. It’s
very easy to find their scat at Hidden Villa, but hard to
find the coyotes. It’s probably because they’re
so fast so they can find a hiding spot quickly. You can open
up scat to see what coyotes eat. You can find bones and hair
of different animals.
There
are tons of hawks at Hidden Villa too. Hawks have sharp eyes
so that they can see their prey from the sky. Hawks eat many
different animals like snakes, mice and bunnies. Hawks are
good predators just like the coyote, but fly and swoop down
to get their prey.
One
of the other animals at Hidden Villa is the deer. Deer are
not predators, only prey. Instead of eating animals, they
eat plants. That makes them herbivores. There are different
ways to behave near them. If you are loud they will most
likely run. Deer don’t normally come near people because
they are cautious.

Plant
Survival
In
the organic garden in Hidden Villa there are different types
of plants. However, plants have similar thing they need to
survive. All plants need leaves, roots, stems and a good
environment.
The
leaves of the plant are important for the plant to survive.
The leaves make sugar for the whole plant to use as energy.
They need a lot of sun and rain to make sugar for the plant.
The plant sends the sugar to other important places in the
plant. Leaves don’t just wastewater; they have a place
where they keep their water in a middle line through the
leaf. Many leaves have a good taste food. Not only worms
eat leaves, other animals like deer eat leaves too.
Roots
and stems are also important for the plant to survive. Roots
are special for the plant because they suck water. You may
ask how it sucks up water. Well, the roots have little hairs
that you can’t see, which extend into the soil and
attract water. The roots of the plant need water to survive
the hot heat. The roots send water to the important places
in the plant, helping it to grow. The roots also make the
plant stand up in one place so it won’t get damaged.
The stems transport the water to the leaves. Because stems
are strong, they help the plant stand up and lift their leaves
up to the sun.
The
plant’s environment needs to give it all those things
it needs to survive. For example, they need water to survive.
Leaves need water for photosynthesis. Plants also need fertile
soil from the environment. The dead leaves are composted
when the worms and FBI eat it. If the fertile soil didn’t
exist, the plant could not live or grow because the nutrients
in the plant come from the soil. The sun is important to
plants because the sun gives them energy. If plants were
in a place where there was too much shade, they would not
grow well. - By Alam |
