The Scoop on Poop
10:00 am - 11:30 pm

HV Photo

For ages 3 to 5, plus caregivers
Get the scoop on poop in this fun gardening class just for preschoolers. First we’ll head out onto the farm to collect the main ingredients we need to plant our Spring garden… such as poop! There are so many kinds here on the farm, all so important for growing everything we eat, from fruits and veggies to milk and ice cream. Children will learn the connections between compost and soil, sample veggies growing in our garden, then craft a special planting project to bring home for their very own garden. If your child is rather fascinated with poop... they might be a budding scientist, or maybe a farmer... and this is the class for you.

Farm and Wilderness Tours for Kids
9:30 am - 1:00 pm

HV Photo

Age range: 8-11 years old. Please note that this is a children- only program. Come pick up your child at the end of the day!

Trek through the wilderness, interact with farm animals and explore our organic garden -- all in a single, action-packed day!  Adapted from our school programs and led by Hidden Villa staff with farming experience and naturalist training, Farm and Wilderness Tours are a chance to explore all that Hidden Villa has to offer. FWTs build confidence and engage childrens’s curiosity as they inspect animal tracks, meet a banana slug along the creek, examine critters in the compost pile, and feed a chicken from their hands.

Throughout, we discover the relationship between wild and domesticated animal and plant life, and how humans depend on each. In the wilderness, we discover a variety of plant communities, learn about predator/prey relationships, animal or plant adaptations, and stewardship of the land.  On the farm, we interact with the farm animals, learn about their habits and what it takes to keep them healthy. In the garden, students taste fresh-picked vegetables, learn the six plant parts, and understand the role of manure! FWTs offer the best of Hidden Villa hands-on education: children leave with sharper observation skills and confidence and comfort with hiking and interacting with animals.
