Land Coordinator

Chelsea Young (she/they)

Land Coordinator

Chelsea grew up in the ancestral and current land of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band. Over the past 10 years she has had various seasonal jobs working as an outdoor educator, backpacking guide, conservationist, wildland firefighter, farm apprentice, and (her personal favorite) cooking for a backcountry trail crew. Through these experiences Chelsea began to see themself as a placeholder: somebody who is committed to tending and nurturing the land to the best of their ability until someone with greater wisdom and expertise comes along. Chelsea was drawn to Hidden Villa because she wants to help carry out their mission of inspiring a deeper appreciation and respect for nature, food, and one another. Her favorite activities at Hidden Villa include helping the wild flora thrive through pruning and singing to plants, Hiking up the Grapevine Trail to see the valley from above, and learning new things from the human and non-human members of the Hidden Villa Community. Their favorite mission-related books are Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer and Tending the Wild: Native American Knowledge and the Management of California’s Natural Resources by M. Kat Anderson.
