School Garden and Education Intern

Isa Peña (they/them)

School Garden and Education Intern

Isa grew up in the suburban sprawl of Anaheim, California before moving away for school and eventually rooting in unceded Tongva lands known today as Los Angeles, California. Isa is a seasoned bee-keeper, florist, artist, and organizer. They draw on their experience working in the labor movement and organizing mutual aid projects to work towards building a more livable and equitable future. Their passions include housing justice, regenerative gardening, and reading. Isa was drawn to the internship program because of Hidden Villa’s commitments to social justice, regenerative land practices, and providing access for all. They were especially attracted by the opportunity to live slowly and savor some valuable time fostering a closer relationship to land and animal kin. Their favorite activities include foraging flowers for use in ikebana arrangements, snuggling with their fur companion Naranja, and cooking intricate meals using farm and foraged ingredients. After a long day, Isa loves to play guitar, read sci-fi and go trail running. Isa’s favorite mission-related book is Our History is the Future by Nick Estes.
