Get the scoop on poop in this fun gardening class just for preschoolers. First we’ll head out onto the farm to collect the main ingredients we need to plant our garden… such as poop! There are so many kinds here on the farm, all so important for growing everything we eat, from fruits and veggies to milk and ice cream. Children will learn the connections between compost and soil, sample veggies growing in our garden, then craft a special planting project to bring home for their very own garden. If your child is rather fascinated with poop... they might be a budding scientist, or maybe a farmer... and this is the class for you.

Community Singing: Earth (Sun. 4 Nov, 2018 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm)

For kids and adults, ages 10 & up

Community singing is a way of singing that focuses not on performance and "sounding good", but on singing for the joy of creating beautiful music with others.  All voices are welcome, whether you have sung in choirs your whole life or you only ever sing in the shower.  We will sing simple and beautiful songs that help us to find connection with each other and the Earth and they will all be taught using call and response so you do not need to be able to read sheet music to participate!

This is a three-part series taking place on Sundays, Nov. 4th, 11th, and 18th and the songs each day will be centered around themes of Earth, Healing, and Empowerment respectively (with some potential crossover).  You are welcome to come to all three gatherings or pop-in to just one.

Songleader Solveig Orngard has been learning, gathering, and teaching songs in song circles like this over the past four years and is excited to have the opportunity to share them in her new home at Hidden Villa! Email her at sorngard@hiddenvilla.org if you have questions.

Poultry Butchery (Sun. 18 Nov, 2018 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

Making use of a whole bird unlocks varied flavors and textures often undiscovered by the home cook. In this class we will cover the basics of parting out and trussing a whole bird for roasting, and work our way up to the more advanced skill of deboning and preparing a galantine for truly impressive meals. By the end of the class each person will have creative new techniques to use on their Thanksgiving turkey or on a weeknight chicken.

Please Note: ticket price covers instruction only, and all students are asked to purchase at least 1 bird to practice on during the class. This class will demonstrate parting out, spatchcocking, and deboning, so you may want more than one bird to work with. Chickens are $5/lb and typically range from 4-5 lbs. Turkeys are $10/lb and typically range from 15-20 lbs.

Part of the proceeds from each turkey sale goes to underwriting turkeys for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula's annual Thanksgiving feast!

This class is part of Hidden Villa's Thanksgiving culinary series.
