Description
The Major Gifts Officer will build and maintain a portfolio and be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgment, and stewardship of donors with a history of or capacity for major gifts to Hidden Villa. This position will work closely with the Executive Director and Director of Development and Communications.
This is an exciting opportunity to work for an organization whose individual giving program is poised for significantly increased revenue in the coming years as Hidden Villa celebrates their centennial in 2024.
This position reports to the Director of Development and Communications.
The Organization
Hidden Villa is a nonprofit educational organization that uses its organic farm, wilderness, and community to teach and provide opportunities to learn about the environment and social justice. Hidden Villa stretches over 1600 acres of open space in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about 40 miles south of San Francisco. We are seeking an experienced, administrative professional eager to work in a collegial environment to help propel the organization's fundraising and communications to the next level.
Key Responsibilities
Key measures of success for the position include increasing contributed income, growing a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, and personal engagement with the donor community.
Portfolio Management
- Secure major gifts from $5k to $500k
- Manage a portfolio of existing partners (~60) and new prospects
- Generate talking points and outreach materials tailored to different audiences
- Create, implement, and track strategic moves management plans for your portfolio of donors/prospects
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with Programs, Volunteers, and Agriculture managers to formulate strategies to build collateral materials to support outreach work.
- Collaborate with the Hidden Villa leadership team to build effective strategies for approaching donors and prospects.
- Contribute to the strategy and implementation of the Development and Communications team’s goals
Event Fundraising
- Plan and implement development events to meet fundraising, donor acquisition, cultivation, stewardship, and engagement goals.
- Implement creative donor engagement activities that utilize the unique qualities of Hidden Villa
Candidate Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have a strong track record of managing a portfolio of donor relationships; will be a self-starter; and will be a team player on a dedicated team. They will be creative, collaborative, goal and detail-oriented; possess strong verbal and written communication skills; and demonstrate a passion for fundraising. The ideal candidate is passionate about a sustainable, healthy, and just future for all.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in fund development or related field with a proven ability to secure major gifts and meet goals
- Demonstrated experience building and managing a donor and prospect portfolio, knowledge of fundraising and moves management best practices, a track record of securing $5k+ gifts from a variety of individual funders.
- Strong interpersonal, diplomatic, and communication (verbal & written) skills; effective in communication with a wide variety of people of diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.
- Familiarity with CRM, prospect research and other tools to aid in moves management process (experience in Salesforce is a plus)
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment and collaborate across department
- Able to work some evening and weekends as required
- Clear background check and history indicating fitness to work with children (prior to start)
Terms of Employment
- Starting salary of $90k - $110k, depending on experience
