HOW TO APPLY

Kinder Camp Counselors: (3 positions, $360/week + camping space & meals) Kinder Camp counselors work with approximately five campers ages 4 to 5, Monday through Friday. Counselors develop and implement curriculum with their group utilizing activities on the farm and trails of Hidden Villa. They are responsible for cultivating the genuine curiosity, self-esteem, and well-being of the campers, Experience in environmental or social justice teaching and/or working with underserved youth a plus. Needs to be at least 18 years old. Must be available June 6-August 19.

Day Camp Counselors: (4 positions, $360/week + camping space and meals) Day Camp counselors work with approximately seven campers ages 6 to 9, Monday through Friday. Counselors develop and implement curriculum with their group utilizing activities on the farm and trails of Hidden Villa. Experience in environmental or social justice teaching and/or working with underserved youth populations a plus. Needs to be at least 18 years old. Must be available June 6-August 19.

Residential Counselors(8 positions, $360/week + outdoor living & meals) Work and live with campers, between the ages of 9-15, as well as staff. Responsible for recognizing and meeting the needs of individual campers, and working to develop a sense of community within the group and the camp. Staff Develop and lead at least one activity daily, incorporating Hidden Villa values and resources into lesson plans. Participate in all camp activities and nighttime supervision of campers. Must show enthusiasm for having responsible fun. Experience in environmental or social justice teaching and/or working with underserved youth populations a plus. Needs to be at least 18 years old. Must be available June 6-August 19.

Residential Counselor Lifeguard: (1 position, $380/week + outdoor living & meals) Work and live with campers, between ages of 9-15, as well as staff. Program Heads: (6 positions, $400/week + shared housing or outdoor living & meals) Excellent communication skills, ability to relate to and supervise others. At least three (3) years working in camping or equivalent experience, with at least one year as a supervisor. Responsible with co-program head for managing one of five programs (Kinder Camp, Day Camp, Tipi Camp, Resident Camp, Farm and Wilderness) which includes supervising staff, Youth Leadership participants (leader/counselor in training) and campers in the program. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Must have a strong interest in developing camp programs. Experience in environmental or social justice teaching and/or working with underserved youth populations a plus. Needs to be 21 years old. Must be available June 2-August 19.

Youth Leadership Program Heads: (1 positions, $400/week + outdoor living & meals) Excellent communication skills, ability to relate to and supervise others, excellent organizational skills. At least three (3) years working in camping or equivalent experience, with at least one year as a supervisor. Responsible for overall management of Youth Leadership Programs (Leaders in Training, Counselors in Training, and Social Justice Leadership Essentials) Responsibilities include teaching teens to work with children as well as teaching leadership & life skills. Develop and lead workshops including but not limited to: Age-Characteristics, Behavior Management, Conflict Resolution & Social Justice. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers and for older youth. Must have a strong interest in developing camp programs. Experienced in environmental or social justice teaching and/or working with underserved youth populations a plus. Experience working with High School age youth a plus. Needs to be 21 years old. Must be available June 2-August. 19.

Arts & Crafts Coordinator: (1 position, $380/week + shared housing & meals) Training and experience in arts and crafts, ability to teach a wide variety of art activities to a wide range of young people, order and maintain supplies within an established budget, keep Arts & Crafts Hut organized and clean, self-motivated, ability to work independently as well as with others, excellent time management skills. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 19 years old. Must be available June 2-August. 19.

Animal Liaison: (1 position, $380/week + shared housing & meals) Experience working with large animals. Plan and direct activities and chores that encourage safe and healthy interaction between Hidden Villa's farm animals and campers. Ability to communicate and work with groups of all ages and skill levels. Participate and provide necessary instruction, communication of safety procedures and animal handling techniques to staff and campers. Ability to work independently as well as with others, excellent time management skills. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 19 years old. Must be available June 2- August. 19.

Maintenance Assistant: (1 position, $380/week + shared housing & meals) Support maintenance department in maintaining buildings and grounds. Support waste reduction efforts through education and waste monitoring. Experience using power tools and landscaping equipment desired. Supervise the safety and working condition of all carts. Ability to maintain daily records on camp equipment. Ability to learn to do tasks as assigned. Ability to work independently as well as with others, excellent time management skills. Also, responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Ability to lift weight of 50 lbs. Must possess valid Driver's License and clean driving record. Ability to relate well with others and work around children. Must be available June 2-August. 19

Outdoor Activity Coordinator: (1 position, $400/week + shared housing & meals) Coordinate the use of outdoor equipment, such as stoves, backpacks, and water purifiers. Support overnight trips through equipment preparation, meal planning, and resupply. Repair and maintain equipment as necessary. Experience with High and Low Ropes course and belay experience. Facilitate ropes course in program daily. Ability to work with wide age range. Maintain ropes course equipment and assist in coordination of all camp activities. Detail oriented ability to maintain accurate equipment records, plan equipment use appropriately for camp activities. Ability to work independently as well as with others, excellent time management skills. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Valid Driver's License and clean driving record (no major infractions) required. Must be available June 2-Aug.19

Archery and Nature Specialist: (1 position, $380/week + shared housing and meals) Plan and supervise archery and nature activities daily. Experience with archery programs, teaching experience preferred. Ability to repair and maintain archery equipment. Detail oriented ability to maintain accurate equipment records and program schedule. Develop and lead activities with group so fall ages focusing on California ecology, natural history, and local indigenous culture. Prior knowledge of these topics strongly preferred. Ability to work independently as well as with others, excellent time management skills. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff.  Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 19 years of age. Must be available June 2-August. 19.

Lifeguard: (1 position, $400/week + shared housing & meals) Current Lifeguard Certification, CPR & First Aid required. Oversee all aspects of the pool - free swim, pool orientations, safety of deck and pool related evening activities. Supervising pool watchers and counselor lifeguards. Inventory and maintain equipment. Self-starter, ability to work independently as well as with others, excellent time management skills. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available June 2-August.19.

Health Care Manager/Nurse: 1 position, $540-800/week + shared housing & meals) Licensed RN or LVN desired. Will consider EMT certified candidates. Experience with children and young adults. Ability to monitor health care, maintain records and supplies, implement health care plan and manage an established budget. Desire to live and work in a camp community. Ability to work independently, with little supervision, as well as with others, excellent time management skills. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available June 2-August 19.

Kitchen Assistants: (5 positions, $420/week + shared housing & meals) Current Serve Safe certification preferred. Support Food Service Manager and cooks in serving three healthy and fresh meals to residential campers and staff. Experience with food preparation and kitchen maintenance. Desire to work in a camp kitchen. Ability to learn to do tasks as assigned. Ability to lift weight of 50 lbs. Ability to relate well with others and work around children. Needs to be at least 18 years of age. Must be available June 4-August 19.

Cooks: (2 positions, $18/hour + housing negotiable) Current Serve Safe certification preferred. Work with Food Service Manager to estimate needs, and to order, receive and store food and supplies. Assist in training kitchen staff. Function as a general all-around cook for all meals and special events. Ability to plan and prepare foods for special needs groups and those with dietary restrictions (Vegan, Food Allergies, etc.) Maintain kitchen with a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety. Experience as a cook, and/or assistant cook, preferably at a camp. Ability to relate well with others in a camp setting. Needs to be at least 18 years of age. Must be available June 2-August 19.

Filled Positions:

Program Supervisor: FILLED) As part of the Administrative team, candidate needs at least two (2) years working as a supervisor in camping or equivalent experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: develop and lead workshops during staff training, provide feedback from activity observations, providing support and evaluation to Program Heads, respond in emergency situations as person in charge, and supervise evening programs. Experience teaching children of diverse age ranges and ability to coach individuals in teaching techniques and group management. Experience teaching with conflict resolution and positive behavior management. Ability to enforce summer camp policies and model appropriate behavior for all of staff. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available May 30-August 23.

Auxiliary Supervisor:(FILLED) Serves as part of the Director's Team in a support role. Candidate needs experience working as a supervisor in camping or equivalent experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: support staff training, conduct observations of camp staff, provide evaluations and necessary coaching to auxiliary staff, act as support for admissions manager, substitute for any seasonal position as need arises, and respond to emergency situations in a leadership role. Experience teaching children of diverse age ranges and ability to coach individuals in teaching techniques and group management. Experience with conflict resolution and positive behavior management. Ability to enforce summer camp policies and model appropriate behavior for all staff. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available May 30-August 23

Food Service Manager: (FILLED) Current Serve Safe certification preferred. Oversee all of Camp's Food Service, supervise and train a six person kitchen staff. Meet needs for all camp programs. Maintain kitchen with a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation and safety. Responsibilities include: Menu planning, ordering, cooking, inventory, scheduling, and payroll. Ability to plan and prepare foods for special needs groups and those with dietary restrictions (Vegan, Food Allergies, etc.) Excellent communication skills, ability to relate to and supervise others. Experience in a camp or institutional food service setting. At least 21 years of age. Must be available May 30-August 19.

Garden Coordinator: (FILLED) Responsible for developing and coordinating activities in Hidden Villa's education garden for summer campers. Maintenance of garden including planting seeds and starts and weeding. Ability to communicate and work with groups of all ages and skills levels participating, and provide necessary instruction and communication of safety procedures to staff and campers. Ability to work independently as well as with others, excellent time management skills. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 19 years old. Must be available June 2-August. 19.

Co-Backpacking Trip Leader: (FILLED) Support the logistical preparation of two 9 day backpacking trips through the Santa Cruz Mountains and an 18-day backpacking trip in Yosemite National Park. Guide groups of up to 12 campers with moderate backpacking experience through the Sierra's focusing on environmental stewardship and making observations on climate concerns through the cross-comparison of historic photos. Must have experience as a trip leader, with meal planning, working with teens and be proficient in use of all backpacking equipment, including stoves, maps, compass, etc. Knowledge of natural history, experience as an environmental educator, and low-impact philosophy are essential. Experience working with underserved youth populations a plus. Wilderness First Responder is required. Lifeguard Certification is a plus. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available June 2-August.19.
