Registration for Hidden Villa Summer Camp is open!

Overnight: Leaders in Training

Description

This 3-week program is for young people who are interested in and ready for the responsibility of caring for children in a camp environment while passing on the Hidden Villa legacy of social and environmental justice. LIT participants begin learning some of the skills they will need as counselors, supporting camp programs, as well as enjoying some camp fun of their own. Topics covered in LIT are communication techniques, conflict resolution, and some basic leadership skills to use with groups of campers. Trainees have the opportunity to practice these skills and work with experienced counselors in our Day Camp programs through a one-week volunteer internship after the training.

Unlike other camp sessions, an application is required for this program during the registration process. This application should be completed by the camp PARTICIPANT, not the parent/guardian. Applications for our LIT program will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all twelve spaces are filled. This process will be a combination of our staff hiring process, preparing youth for both employment and college applications, while still embracing the camp enrollment guidelines of preserving some spots for youth applying for financial aid, as we do in all of our camp programs.

LIT campers will enjoy sleeping under the stars in the fresh air.

  • Campers will enjoy sleeping with the fresh breeze of Hidden Villa night air.
  • Each overnight camp will be spread out throughout the farm and will have its own private sleeping area.
  • All pods are completely gender-inclusive! We welcome people of all genders to any pod.
  • All campers will be provided a camp mattress that is cleaned and disinfected before and after each session.
