SPOTLIGHT: SUMMER CAMP

EMPOWERED & INSPIRED

For eight decades, Hidden Villa’s summer camp has been transforming lives through experiences that build confidence, independence, and compassion. From a 1940s camper whose Hidden Villa experience shaped her lifelong commitment to social justice, to today’s Leaders in Training participants, who help younger campers conquer fears, our mission to foster educational experiences that build connections and inspire deeper appreciation and respect for nature, food, and one another remains constant. In this month’s feature, discover how three generations of Hidden Villa campers and staff have found empowerment in the same sun-dappled watershed, and how the simple magic of camp continues to inspire children to step beyond their comfort zones and discover their authentic selves.

80 Years of Awesome!

“We had a program of riding, swimming, hikes, arts and crafts, and nature lore. We lived on a cooperative basis, with everyone responsible each day for duties connected with the life of the group. It was a happy experience for all of us and some friendships are carrying over and contacts made between parents. I expect to repeat the experiment next summer.”

- Josephine Duveneck

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Opera House to Open Air:

SF Opera at Hidden Villa

Our collaboration with San Francisco Opera brought “Bohème Out of the Box” to Hidden Villa, merging arts with our natural landscape. Visitors enjoyed Puccini’s beloved “La Bohème” performed on an innovative mobile stage, a transformed shipping container, where six talented singers performed this 70-minute adaptation in Italian with keyboard accompaniment.

The pre-show children’s workshop made this experience especially interactive and family-friendly, engaging our youngest visitors with opera’s magic. Following the performances, we hosted the SF Opera’s executive team at the Duveneck house to celebrate our first event collaboration together and to explore future partnerships between arts and environmental education.

We’re grateful to everyone who attended and to SF Opera for bringing this cultural treasure to our community. Stay tuned for more innovative partnerships as we continue exploring how arts and nature can inspire together! Follow the button below to learn more about the SF Opera’s upcoming shows, including the full production of La Boheme.
